“If you start out with $100 at the beginning of the year and you were able to increase what you have by 1% every single day, at the end of the year, you would have $3,778.34 = $100 * (1 + 1%) ^ 365. That is 37.78x what you had at the beginning of the year. Get that 1% every single day!” — Zappos.

Zappos wrote this urging employees to improve 1% each day and become 37 times better by the end of the year.

Would you agree that it doesn’t matter what job you have that you have the potential impact to innovate yourself and your tasks for the betterment of the company?

As a coach, I have a responsibility to my executive leader to seek out new and improved ways to do my job. I have a responsibility to support them to achieve their desired outcomes in the best way possible.

This requires me to be a problem-seeker, not just a problem-solver. I need trust from my leader. Trusted to try.

Innovation need not be big, hairy, audacious changes that require a complex change management plan. They can be 1% daily, making my work 37 times better year on year.

Ask your coach if they can improve their work and your success 1% daily, I guarantee they can and so can you.

Don’t have an coach? Ask me. I happen to be awesome at incremental improvements daily.
